Title: Percent Cloud Cover for: June
Type of Map: raster Number of Categories: 102
Rows: 2250
Columns: 4500
Total Cells: 10125000
Data Source:
IIASA GRID-Geneva
Comments:
The IIASA mean monthly cloudiness data contains only about 1/4
the number of data records (approx. 1600 stations); therefore
it is estimated rather than computed data. The data set shows
slight distortions which likely resulted from the interpolation
routine. The distortions are more pronounced with odd patterns
in high-latitude zones, where fewer stations were available and
more extrapolation was done.
Cloudiness is defined as a percentage of the actual number of
bright sunshine hours over the potential number (#hours of sun/
potential #).
The GRID version of this data is in one byte (eight bit) image
format; the data arrays are 360 rows by 720 columns and covers
the entire globe. The data values are from 0 to 100 (per cent)
with the oceans equal to 101. There was no data for Antarctica,
which is category 102. The data files are in the Plate Carree
projection, a particular form of the Equirectangular.
