The Highlands Regional Information System (HiRIS) is a tool for the visualization of Highlands resource assessment data at County and Local levels. This graphically illustrated web site features information such as Conservation Values, Population Growth, 1972-2000 Land Cover Change, and Buildout Scenarios mined from the USDA Forest Service Highlands Regional Study Update (2002) and the Pennsylvania and Connecticut Regional Study Update (Part 1).

Partners on the regional studies included the Cornell University, University of Connecticut, Pennsylvania State University, Rutgers University, Yale University, and Regional Plan Association. The studies were also aided by the cooperation of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
